Careers

Student career posters within the classroom

It has been a busy start to the term for careers. Each class has their classroom careers displayed, which shows the jobs and responsibilities of different members of the class; the careers of the half term have also been updated to reflect the new occupations the children will be studying during this module.

The career focus is also woven throughout the lessons in order for the children to learn more about the professions:

In Nursery this week, the children have been learning about people who help them in our community. They looked at the different occupations in the story book ‘Real Superheroes’ before learning about the role of doctors, nurses and paramedics.

In year 3, the children have been product designers. They have designed vehicles suited to travelling around different extreme environments, such as the icy tundra.

Year 5 enjoyed an exciting session as ‘Computer Programmers’. For the first time, they used the Crumble sets and explored how they work. The children had a great time creating a light show in the classroom, programming the Sparkles to flash in different colours. It was wonderful to see their focus and enthusiasm as they learned how to write and test their code. This activity helped them understand the basics of programming while also letting them experiment with creativity.

Linked to careers, Year 6 had an exciting visit to the Leigh UTC to experience life at a secondary school and explore possible career ideas in mechanical engineering and design.  Their task for the day was to create their very own mechanical toys using woodworking skills and state-of-the-art equipment. This hands-on experience was not only educational but also a great way for the children to develop essential problem-solving and creativity skills
