A Day of Literary Magic: LAD Celebrates World Book Day 2025!

What a fantastic day it was! We’re still buzzing from the excitement of World Book Day, celebrated on Friday, 7th March 2025. It was a day filled with creativity, imagination, and a shared love for the wonderful world of books.

Our primary goal was to ignite a passion for reading, and we certainly saw that spark in every student! This year, we offered two fun ways for our students to bring their favourite book characters to life: dressing up in full costume or creatively using three props to represent their chosen character. The results were absolutely brilliant! From classic characters to modern favourites, the school was transformed into a vibrant literary wonderland.

But the fun didn’t stop there! We wanted to delve deeper into the world of storytelling, so we organised a unique dinner party-style role play. This interactive experience allowed students to enhance their oracy skills by truly embodying their characters. Through voice, actions, and movements, they brought their chosen personalities to life, engaging in lively conversations and getting to know a diverse range of literary figures. It was a joy to see them step into the shoes of their beloved characters!

To add an extra layer of magic, each class had the incredible opportunity to participate in a live author event! This gave our students invaluable insight into the world of storytelling, hearing firsthand from a real author about the creative process and the power of words. It was an inspiring experience for everyone involved.

We also launched our “Read Your Way” competition, inviting students to express their love for reading in a multitude of ways. This year, we wanted to see creativity unleashed! Students were encouraged to showcase their passion for books through writing their own short stories, creating vibrant drawings, putting on engaging performances, or crafting imaginative book-themed creations. On World Book Day, many students got started on their projects, exploring any topic or genre that captured their imagination. Remember, there’s still time to participate! If your child is inspired to create their own entry at home, whether it’s a story, drawing, performance, or craft, please ensure it’s brought to their class teacher by Wednesday 12th March. The top five entries across the academy will win a £5.00 book voucher to spend at our World Book Day Book Fair. We can’t wait to see the fantastic creations they bring in!

It was clear throughout the day that Leigh Academy Dartford is reading their way to changing the world! The enthusiasm and engagement shown by our students demonstrated the power of reading to inspire, educate, and transform. World Book Day 2025 was a resounding success, and we’re incredibly proud of our students’ enthusiasm and creativity. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special!
