Today, Reception had a visit from the company Exotic Explorers. The children had the opportunity to meet five different animals which came from the range of habitats that we have been learning about.
The children were very excited to meet all the animals. They were able to hold and stroke the bearded dragon which some of the children described the spikes as being soft.
They were then introduced to the snake. We were able to stroke the Boa Constrictor and felt his scales. The instructor told us that they only eat once a month!
They were then introduced to the chinchilla which was very soft to stroke but we couldn’t hold it as it would make its fur too warm. Chinchillas live in really cold environments so they have lots of fur to keep them warm
After we got to meet the skunks. We learnt that their fur can change based on their habitat and they have a very strong sense of smell to help find their food. Skunks also have very sharp claws to help them dig in the wild.
Finally we got to meet the barn owls. We were able to watch them fly across the classroom.
What an exciting visit, we can’t wait to tell all our friends and family about it!
