In our fast-paced world, nurturing values such as kindness, empathy, and compassion in young people has never been more vital. At Leigh Academy Dartford, we believe that kindness is a seed – once planted and cared for, it grows into something truly beautiful.
To celebrate this belief, we launched our “Kindness Art Competition”, an event that combined creativity, imagination, and heartfelt messages from our talented students.
The aim was simple: to encourage pupils to express what kindness means to them through the universal language of art. In a time when the world can sometimes feel divided, we wanted to remind our community that even the smallest acts of kindness can create positive ripples, making a lasting difference.
Art, as a form of self-expression, provided the perfect canvas for this theme. Whether through a helping hand, a kind word, or an inclusive gesture, our students beautifully captured the many ways kindness appears in everyday life.
A panel of teachers judged the entries, focusing not only on artistic ability but also on how powerfully each piece conveyed the message of kindness. After much thoughtful consideration, two winners were selected – one from each Key Stage – while all participants were recognised for their creativity and effort.
The winners were Theo from Monarch Butterfly class (KS1) and Alice from Whale Shark Class (KS2). Their outstanding artwork was celebrated in a special assembly on Friday, where they each received a prize.
We had some absolutely stunning entries this year and they were displayed in a school gallery, allowing students to admire each other’s work and reflect on the meaning of kindness. Ultimately, the greatest reward was the pride and joy on each child’s face as their artwork – and their compassion – were celebrated.
