Little Birds – Final Week of Term

Two children are engaged in outdoor kitchen or imaginative play using natural materials. They are interacting with autumn leaves placed in bowls, a colander, and a plastic tub on a wooden play unit, possibly pretending to cook or make a potion.

Who We Are Final week Of Term

For the final week of our first term the Little birds enjoyed talking about the different celebrations they carry out at home at various times throughout the year.

They showed photos of themselves dressed up in different cultural costumes/clothing as well as dressed up at nursery in various costumes too.

This was to celebrate Who We Are Day.

Two young girls are seated at a blue tray table, engaged in construction play with different materials. One child is building with green bamboo-like tubes and small wooden blocks, while the other is reaching for something on the table.
Two young children are standing outdoors, dressed in colorful, patterned clothing (over their school uniform) and matching hats, possibly for a celebration or dress-up day, and posing for the picture.

The children also spoke about where they lived, enhancing their Geography knowledge.

One child said, ‘I live in England’

Another said, ‘I live in Dartford’

Some drew pictures of their houses at Focus group time.

A young child is happily holding up a finished drawing or a picture they have been coloring with red and purple markers, smiling broadly at the camera.

Signs of Autumn and Harvest

Following the children’s interests, the Little birds enjoyed collecting leaves and looking for spiders and bugs in the garden.

A young child, viewed from above, is engaged in a sensory or imaginative play activity outdoors. They are leaning over a black tray (possibly a tuff tray) filled with a mixture of autumn leaves (mostly maple leaves) and small, orange, pebble-like objects (maybe pieces of carrot or plastic pieces). The child is using their hands to interact with the materials.
A young girl with her hair tied up is focused on an outdoor play activity. She's interacting with the leaves and small orange objects in the black tray, using a small white tool, possibly a toy knife or trowel. She is wearing a dark, floral print rain jacket.

As an end of term activity they children iced biscuits and made spider web designs on them.

Also we spoke about the importance of Harvest time, what farmers do as jobs and  harvesting fruit and vegetables. The children enjoyed cutting vegetables in the nursery mud garden, developing their finer physical skills.

A group of five young children, dressed in a mix of school uniform and outdoor coats, are gathered around a black, hexagonal play tray (tuff tray) outdoors. The tray is scattered with orange pieces (possibly carrot pieces) and a bit of liquid or residue, suggesting a sensory or water play activity.

The book we looked at was The Enormous Turnip which we will revisit again later in the academic year to study more.

A few children also this week were fascinated by the roles of the Practitioners/Teachers in the Nursery and they took on the role of them in their imaginative play. Showing an interest in this Career.

A young girl is sitting on a chair and holding up a card that says "good looking." The classroom setup, including the interactive screen displaying birds and the "Key Group Time" slide, is visible in the background.
A young girl is standing in the classroom and holding a soft toy Goldfinch. The large interactive screen behind her shows the "Key Group Time" display, which features three different birds (a Sparrow, a Goldfinch, and a Robin) with pictures of staff members underneath, suggesting the children are divided into groups named after the birds.
