We are Unique

This week in Little Birds, we have been talking about ourselves. We have used the iPads and promethean board to share information and photos about our culture, celebrations, cultural outfits and family with our friends.

Two babies, possibly twins, are standing side-by-side. Both are wearing matching long-sleeved tops with "One" written on them, pink tutus, and pink bows in their hair, suggesting a first birthday celebration.
A baby is sitting on green artificial grass, eating from their hand. In front of the baby is a paper plate with a slice of cake. The baby is wearing a light-colored top and a white tutu skirt with small daisy designs, and a pink bow on their head. A small blue paddling pool and some drinks are visible in the background.
A baby is sitting on a plaid blanket outdoors in front of a field of purple flowers (likely lavender). There's a cake with a "1" candle and various candies in front of the baby, suggesting a first birthday celebration.

We used group time to speak about the similarities and differences between ourselves. We expressed that we are all unique and important in the world in which we live.  This developed our personal, social and listening skills and developed our sense of self when passing a doll around the group.

Little Birds made models of ourselves using a variety of mixed media and materials.

We listened to the story ‘Baby Goes to Market’. We talked about the continent of Africa and compared this to the market in our local community and town.

During class time, we observed maps and atlases of the world. We made connections and recalled that we live in England and the town of Dartford.

‘I live in Dartford’- one child said and another said ‘ I live in Vigo’.

This is the cover of a children's book titled "Baby goes to Market". The illustration shows a woman with a baby strapped to her back, both smiling. The woman is wearing a colorful headwrap and a blue top, and the baby is in a yellow outfit.

Little Birds spoke about hot climates and countries where the food grows to further develop our geographical knowledge.

Four young children, also in white polo shirts, are standing in front of a large interactive screen, all pointing at different parts of a map that appears to show the UK and surrounding areas. This is likely in a classroom.

We learnt a song about being unique – written by Mrs Ellson (Twinkle, Twinkle tune)

We’re all unique, can you see no one is the same as me,

Some have blue eyes, some have green and some have brown and that’s what makes us unique.

We’re all unique, can you see no one is the same as me,

Some have straight hair, some have curly, some have short and some have long and that’s what makes us unique.

We’re all unique, can you see no one is the same as me.

Some children are short and some children are tall, and that’s what makes us unique.

We’re all unique, can you see no one is the same as me.

Some children celebrate Eid, some celebrate Christmas, some celebrate Diwali and Chinese New year. and that’s what makes us unique.

Little Birds have really enjoyed looking at the book “ Oi Frog” as well.

This book is written by the same author as  “Billy’s Bucket”, Kes Gray.

This is a close-up portrait of an older man with light hair, looking directly at the camera with a slightly furrowed brow.
This is the cover of a children's book titled "OI FROG!". It features a green frog sitting on a log against a yellow background.

We carried out an activity matching rhyming objects together into groups before writing our own stories like ‘Oi Frog’.

A young child is sitting on a grey carpet, looking at an open copy of the "Oi Frog!" book. The book is open to a page with a blue background and text, along with an illustration of the frog from the cover. A blue star cutout is on the floor next to the book.
Several children and an adult are sitting on the floor in a classroom. Three children are facing each other, and one child is reaching for items on a red tray that contains toy vegetables and other objects. An adult, mostly visible from the back, is sitting opposite the children. There's a red baseball cap on the floor nearby.
