What happens during different seasons of the year?

Students gardening

This week Little Birds have been looking at different seasons and the changes in the weather. In the garden, they noticed the flowers growing, observed the signs of spring and cared for the plants by watering them as well as covering their roots with extra soil.

The children looked at pictures of different seasons and weather in books as well as learnt songs about them too. The Little Birds had fun dressing up in different clothing for various climates. This developed our understanding of the world around us.

The stories we listened to this week were “The Gruffalo” and “The Gruffalo’s Child”.

We spoke about the feelings of the characters as well as the seasons. This enhanced our emotional development as well as our listening skills.

Little Birds participated in various activities linked with the Gruffalo, working on many skills including expressive arts and design, imagination, writing and physical skills.

  • Making Gruffalo crumble in the mud garden and pretending to be a Gruffalo.
  • Manipulating playdough into models of the Gruffalo and adding textured resources.

Little Birds participated in number activities in the maths area based on The Gruffalo to develop number recognition and counting skills.

For music we listened to the Gruffalo song and attempted to sing along to the words and perform some of the actions.
