Reception
Reception have been learning all about healthy food. We read the story Handa’s Surprise to start a discussion about fruits. We talked about needing to eat lots of fruit and vegetables each day and how smoothies contained lots of fruits. The children tested some smoothies from the shops and then had a go at making their own smoothies. They thought about what fruits they wanted to add to their smoothie and then cut up the ingredients before blending it all together. The children reflected on their creation and thought about if they liked it or what they might do differently next time.
Year 1
What an exciting Enterprise Week we had in Year 1! The children were buzzing with creativity and enthusiasm as they designed and made beautiful woven coasters, which were a huge hit at the Enterprise Fair.
Our little creators put in so much effort weaving coasters from recycled materials. It was fantastic to see them tapping into their creativity while learning about the importance of sustainability. Throughout the week, we focused on UN Sustainable Development Goal number 12, which highlights responsible consumption and production. Our young learners truly recognised the idea that their local efforts can make a positive impact on the world around them.
The art of making those coasters was just a part of the excitement! Our students also created eye-catching posters to advertise their products, showcasing their artistic flair with catchy slogans and vibrant designs.
In addition to weaving, we raised extra funds for Lendwithcare by making delightful Rice Krispie cakes. The children loved getting their hands sticky and crafting these tasty treats, which added to the variety available at the Enterprise Fair. It was a wonderful opportunity to encourage entrepreneurial skills while teaching them the importance of supporting worthwhile causes.
Year 2
During Enterprise Week, Year 2 took the initiative to create a website homepage aimed at helping adults improve their use of technology in daily life. The children wanted to shift adults’ perspectives on technology by highlighting its usefulness. Working within a set budget, they carefully managed their resources and advertising expenses. They designed their own billboards, websites, and logos to promote their businesses and advertise their websites. The children thoroughly enjoyed applying their Computing skills to develop and showcase their projects.
Year 3
Year 3’s inquiry this term has been about how people can invent things to solve problems. We explained to the children that a lack of sanitation is a big problem in other parts of the world and played a fun game to see how fast bacteria can spread when people shake hands. The children were challenged to design a device for washing hands using rainwater. They had to stick to a budget, purchase their resources and solve problems together along the way. They also painted their own logos and created a pitch to convince investors that their solution was the best.
Year 4
What a week it’s been for our Year 4 students! As part of our Enterprise Week, they took on an exciting challenge to design and build their own flood defence devices to help protect communities living in flood-prone areas.
Buzzing with creativity and determination, the children became environmentalists, designers, and manufacturers, diving into research to understand how flooding affects people and what can be done to reduce the damage which is linked to our line of inquiry that ‘people are attracted to living near water.’
Working together in teams, they turned their ideas into reality, carefully testing and adjusting their prototypes to make sure they worked as intended. It wasn’t always easy, but the children showed amazing problem-solving skills and resilience.
Each team had to calculate their expenses and plan for profit, just like real entrepreneurs. The children then brought their projects to life in a different way, through persuasive adverts and even filming their own commercial pitches. Watching them confidently present their products was a proud moment for everyone.
This week has been about so much more than just building flood defences. It’s been about teamwork, creativity, and learning from mistakes. The children have grown as communicators, thinkers and problem-solvers, and it’s been a joy to watch their ideas come to life.
A huge well done to our future inventors, designers, and entrepreneurs. We can’t wait to see where your creativity takes you next!
Year 5
This week, Year 5 has been busy designing and making exciting projects all about saving water!
Our challenge was to create water-saving devices and water-harvesting products to help people use less water in their daily lives. We thought about how water is wasted and came up with clever ideas to prevent this. Some children designed gadgets to remind people to turn off taps, while others created systems to collect and reuse rainwater.
Many of us also chose to design our own educational board games to teach younger children why saving water is so important. We used our creativity to make fun, engaging games with questions, challenges, and rewards for making water-wise choices.
Some children took their projects to the next level by using Micro:bits and Crumble kits to make their games interactive and technological. This added an exciting digital element, making the games even more engaging to play!
We have really enjoyed working on these projects and learning how small changes can make a big difference in saving water. We can’t wait to share our creations with others and inspire them to be more water-conscious too!
Year 6
During Enterprise Week, Year 6 students took on the challenge of designing an innovative product that uses sustainable energy. Working in teams, they brainstormed creative ideas, from solar-powered phone chargers to biogas transmitters. Through research and collaboration, they developed prototypes, considering both functionality and environmental impact. At the end of the week, they presented their products to a panel of judges (their teachers), showcasing their entrepreneurial skills and commitment to sustainability. This experience not only enhanced their teamwork and problem-solving abilities but also inspired them to think about a greener future.
Who We Want to be Day
Our first Who We Want to be Day was a huge success! Lots of our children came in with a book or a prop showcasing the career they would like to do when they grow up. Each class discussed a variety of ideas, from artists, Disneyland enthusiasts, hair stylists and sports stars to archeologists, zoologists, doctors and vets! The children spoke passionately about their chosen careers and why they would like to do these jobs.
Enterprise Fair
Our Enterprise Fair on Thursday afternoon was a huge success and the perfect way to end Enterprise Week. The children enjoyed making their products in class and then selling them to their parents after school. The hall was buzzing with excitement over all of the fantastic things that were made, including iced biscuits, fruit kebabs, hot chocolate bags and decorated tea light holders.
Thank you to everyone who supported our young entrepreneurs at the fair! Your enthusiasm and generosity helped us raise funds for a fantastic cause and made the week a memorable experience for all involved.
