School Uniform

Leigh Academy Dartford pupils are proud of their academy and as such wear their uniform with pride.  We would like to remind you that all pupils are expected to wear the following:

Key Uniform Expectations

  • Official LAD Jumper/Cardigan: All children must wear the official Leigh Academy Dartford jumper or cardigan, which can be purchased from Brigade.
  • Bottoms: Dark grey trousers, shorts, skirt, or pinafore dresses. During summer months, grey shorts or the summer blue check dress may be worn.
  • Shirts: White collared shirt, blouse, or polo shirt.
  • Footwear: Sensible flat leather black shoes (no higher than the ankle bone). Trainers are not allowed. While we recognise some retail outlets sell ‘trainer-looking’ school shoes, we do not consider branded trainers to be formal school shoes. For safety reasons, no sandals or open-toed shoes are permitted. Boots may only be worn to and from the academy in winter months; school shoes must be worn inside.
  • Socks: Plain white, grey or black socks
  • Outerwear: In colder weather, a warm waterproof coat should be worn.

Nursery Uniform

From September 2022, pupils in our nursery can wear their own unique uniform which includes:

  • A jumper or cardigan with our new nursery logo – Little Birds Nursery
  • Dark grey trousers or dark grey jogging bottoms.
  • All children need to have sensible shoes that are easy to remove
  • In colder weather, your child should have a warm waterproof coat

PE Kit

On the day of their PE lesson, children should come to school in their PE uniform.

  • Pale blue T-shirt
  • Navy blue or black sport shorts (no higher than mid-thigh) Cycling shorts are not appropriate.
  • Navy/black non-branded tracksuit bottoms may be worn in winter months (children will wear their LAD sweatshirt/cardigan)
  • Black or white sports shoes, or plimsolls (for outdoor games; indoor PE is done barefoot).

Children are NOT allowed to wear jewellery.

  • Jewellery: Children are not allowed to wear jewellery. Rings, necklaces, and bracelets are unsuitable, with the exception of religious chains worn under the shirt. NO hooped or dangly earrings. Earrings should not be worn on P.E days – if earrings haven’t been removed on these days they must be removed and handed to a teacher and your child must be able to do this themselves. If earrings cannot be removed they will not be able to take part.
  • Make-Up: Make-up, including lipstick, mascara, and nail varnish, is not suitable for the academy. Students arriving with make-up or nail varnish will be required to remove it.
  • Hair: Hair must be a natural colour. NO coloured braids or extreme colours are permitted, nor are unusual hairstyles, including tram lines. Hair accessories should be small, discrete, and neutral or royal blue in colour; NO large bows or clips. All hair that falls below the chin must be fully tied back and off the face for Health & Safety reason

Our branded uniform can be purchased from our school supplier Brigade. We also recommend considering high street retailers for the majority of your child’s basic uniform, for value for money. If you would like second-hand school uniform, please speak to one of the Family Liaison Officers. For the Infant site it is Mrs Reid and for the Junior Site it is Mrs Day. All contact details can be found on the Contact Us page.

Please ensure your child’s entire school uniform including coat and shoes are labelled.  Whilst we do have lost property collections, we are not responsible for lost items.

We appreciate your support in helping us prepare your child for their secondary education and the world of work, where uniform and dress expectations may be in place.
