How to grow a Sunflower?

A graphic image of a bunch of Sunflowers against a green and blue background.

This week we have been learning about plants. We have found out about the different parts of a plant and flower.

We learnt the new words for each section: roots, stem, leaves and flower.

A diagram showing the names of different parts of a Sunflower and where they are located on the plant.

Little Birds then drew diagrams of a sunflower plant. We also made flowers from collage materials and shaped paper too.

We were developing our understanding of the world around us.

Little Birds enjoyed planting our own sunflower seeds, which we have taken home to care for and watch grow.

We recalled the needs of a plant to grow, remembering that they need water, sun and soil.

The stories we have enjoyed listening to this were are:

‘The Tiny Seed’, ‘Jaspers Beanstalk’ and ‘Ten Seeds’.

Some of us were authors, making up our own stories about a sunflower seed.

Another amazing week of learning had by us all at Little Birds Nursery.
