Inside Maths: A Day of Discovery at the Royal Institution

Year 5 pupils had an unforgettable experience at the Royal Institution in London for an enrichment day called “Inside Maths.” The day was packed with hands-on challenges, inspiring speakers and the thrill of exploring London.

The first guest speaker demonstrated the incredible power of origami and folding, showing how these techniques have led to amazing real-world inventions. Along the way, pupils tackled practical challenges, developing their resilience and problem-solving skills. The second speaker dazzled with maths tricks and games, revealing the fascinating mathematics behind them and keeping everyone engaged with interactive demonstrations.

Beyond the talks, the children took part in two exciting challenges. They embarked on a maths hunt through the Royal Institution’s historic museum, home to Michael Faraday’s laboratories, solving riddles along the way. Later, in the vast library, they worked as a team to build interconnected tetrahedron pyramids—a true test of collaboration and logical thinking.

The adventure didn’t stop there! Pupils enjoyed a scenic walk past Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly, taking in the sights of Central London. They even witnessed the farmers’ protest on their way home—an unexpected but educational moment.

It was a fantastic day that sparked curiosity and deepened a love for maths!
